Today, this 16th day of August the survey squad of Presa.ge met the refugees settled in the Public School No. 161 of
Luiza Sukhitashvili, residing at the village Avnevi, whose house and all she propried burnt to the ground, has been rescued by the Georgian soldiers. Nowadays like other about five hundred refugees she lives in the building of the public school and is waiting for the termination of the war. She is not sure if she will be able to return home, which probably does not exist any more.
The population of Avnevi have left the village during bombing. The tire of one of the automobile was cracked on the way. The family of the refugees with great difficulties have reached the village Variani, which was in the conflict zone.
- “The village is empty, the only person who sayed there is an ill man, he is Ossetin. They said that this man has also died. Also they say that the vilage has been robbed firstly by the Russians and Ossetians and afterwards by the Cossacks. They robbed the houses and afterwards burnt them. The viilage is all burnt to the ground so that there does not exist a building.
Since August 6, when all this started, the Ossetins have evacuated their children from their villages, but their men have not left the villages.
- “I have asked my cousin to take me out of the village. He said: - where are you going to? our boys have entered Tskinvali, now they are walking in the nearby villages and are hoisting our flags there and are warning the Ossetian population that they are not going to cause any harm to them, so they can stay if they want and just live there, but those who are eager to go they can leave …” – told us one intelligent lady from the village Avnevi.
The second day bombing was commenced. They have rescued with difficulty. On the road was standing the police chief of the village, who has been almost crying, he said:-“I have been taking care of the villages like my children and what is going on now… my dear boys, where have I got to search for you…”.
